Ways to protect yourself from credit card fraud

America’s Credit Unions found more than 60% of people saw increased card fraud in the past year.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Recent data from America's Credit Unions shows credit card fraud rates doubled from 2011 to 2022. 

WCNC Charlotte is sharing some tips on how to protect your credit card information so you’re not left asking where's the money.

America’s Credit Unions found more than 60% of people saw increased card fraud in the past year. They say a lot of these crimes could have been prevented if consumers knew how to protect themselves in the first place. 

Here are some tips they shared:

  • Stay informed of what sites have access to your financial information, including saved card data
  • Update your login credentials when a data breach occurs and compromises information
  • Stay vigilant of potential scams and contact your credit union as soon as you think you might be a victim of a scam
