GREENSBORO – The 25th annual Women's Only 5K raised nearly $100,000 in the fight against breast cancer.
The race took place Saturday, October 14 in Greensboro. More than 2,100 women participated in the event. The money raised will help uninsured women receive life-saving mammograms.
The Women's Only 5K is the largest race of its kind in the Southeast.
One out of every eight women will get breast cancer - that's why WFMY News 2 joined the community to raise awareness and help women get life-saving mammograms.
The premier event raises funds for the Mammography Scholarship Fund at Women’s Hospital, which each year provides about 600 women with life-saving screening mammograms that they would otherwise be unable to afford.
“Mammography is the gold standard in diagnosing breast cancer, “says Women’s Hospital President Debbie Cunningham, DNP. “A lack of money shouldn’t be a reason for not getting this lifesaving exam.”
