Cone Health invests $150 million to help underserved communities throughout the Triad

Cone Health is partnering with the City of Greensboro to expand health and wellness programs in East Greensboro.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Cone Health is investing $150 million in the next five years to underserved communities throughout the Triad area.

East Greensboro is a part of the plan.

A representative from Cone Health said it is merging the Vance Chavis Library and the Windsor Recreation Center to create a hub for health, books, and education programs.

The new building will be called the Windsor Chavis Community Complex.

"For the existing Vance Chavis Library we are having a conversation with the city on re-imagining the health and wellness program and using the term health hubs. Where you could find everything you can need to manage your health all in one place. We are looking forward to exploring that opportunity within the City of Greensboro as well," Cone Health Senior VP Ambulatory & Consumer Services Deno Adkins said.

He explains it is all a part of the CATCH 5 initiative to add five years of life and close the 15-year gap in life expectancy for those in need.

"We think about all the programming clinically, and we think about healthy eating and people feeling safe," Adkins said.

Residents like Katashia Platt said that resources like this keep their families going.

"I am a regular at the library; it's very kid friendly, and that's a great thing," she said.

One local said a one-stop shop for health and wellness is exactly what he needs.

"You can see that most of the businesses are located in the West, and we need some business in the East," Kabinga Kibebe said.

Cone Health said similar upgrades are set to come to the Warnersville Recreation Center. The Windsor Chavis Community Complex is expected to open in late 2026.
