'He did shoot at me,' Batteries Plus worker details gunfire exchange with robbery suspect on 911 call

911 calls reveal the employee's point of view during the shooting Monday morning.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — We are learning more information on the shooting that happened Monday morning at Batteries Plus on Battleground Avenue.

WFMY News 2 obtained 911 calls from the robbery. In one of the calls, an employee is heard telling the dispatcher that gunfire was exchanged between him and the suspect.

"Someone pulled out a firearm. They robbed me at gunpoint," the employee is heard telling the 911 operator.

"He did shoot at me a couple times," the worker continued.

The operator then asked if anyone was injured.

The worker responded, "I may or may not have hit him. I can't tell. I don't believe that he hit me but he did shoot back. I didn't shoot back at him...He did start off by robbing me. He came in with a weapon. He came in with his revolver. I did pull out my gun. At first, I gave him the money, but then I pulled out my gun, told him to drop the money. So he dropped it, then he ran and pulled out his gun and started firing at me."

Greensboro police did confirm gunfire was exchanged between a worker and the suspect.

The robbery happened just after 8:30 a.m. Monday when a man in a ski mask went inside the store and shot at the worker who was opening up. The man ran out of the store with approximately $900 and the windows of the store were also shot out, according to police.

GPD said it got multiple calls on the incident while sending officers to the scene. There were reports that the suspect ran in the direction of David Caldwell Drive and Martinsville Road.

Police haven't identified the suspect at this time.
