Man accused of shooting, killing woman after argument in Winston-Salem, police say

Winston-Salem police said 44-year-old Clifton McMillan is charged with felony murder in connection to a shooting on Byerly Road.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man is accused of shooting and killing a woman in Winston-Salem Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The Winston-Salem Police Department said officers were called to the 400 block of Byerly Road about a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite life saving efforts, 54-year-old Sandra Rae Ramseur died on the scene.

After an investigation, police said 44-year-old Clifton McMillan and Ramseur were in an argument which led to McMillan shooting her. Clifton was found at a house nearby and arrested.

Detectives said he was charged with felony murder and is behind bars without bond.

This was not a random act of violence; there was no danger to the community, according to police.
