High Point man arrested in connection to Hunter Street shooting that left person dead, police say

Detectives said the arrest stemmed from an investigation into a deadly Thomasville shooting.

THOMASVILLE, N.C. — Police said a High Point man has been arrested in connection to a deadly shooting in Thomasville.

Thomasville police said their detectives along with the High Point Police Department executed a search warrant for a home on the 2600 block of Northfork Terrace in High Point on April 11.

Officers arrested Melvin Lee Brown, 40, of High Point.

Melvin Brown was charged with possession of a firearm by convicted felon and possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine. 

He received a $15,000 secured bond for possession of a firearm and a $5,000 secured bond for possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine.

Melvin Brown was held in Davidson County Jail where he has since posted bond and been released.

Detectives said this arrest stemmed from an investigation into a deadly Thomasville shooting.

Police said they responded to Hunter Street on March 23 shortly before 6 p.m. after receiving multiple calls reporting a shooting.

When officers arrived they found Bobby Brown, 35, of Greensboro, dead at the scene.

Three other victims, officers identified as Khiry Bowman, 31, Blake McDonald, 38, and James Thompson, 27, all of Thomasville, suffered from gunshot wounds and arrived at Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center a short time later. They were later taken to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.

Police said they all have since been treated and released.

Detectives identified Melvin Brown as a part of the disturbance that led to the shooting.

Officers said that evidence gathered at the scene revealed that Bobby Brown, initiated the shooting toward a group of men in the roadway with a gun that originally belonged to Melvin Brown.

Police said Bobby Brown was struck and killed by gunfire returned by others.

The investigation is ongoing.
