Lexington shooting and kidnapping suspect was on pretrial release for Forsyth Co. homicide

Zackary Lee Plowman appeared in court on Monday.

DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — Zackary Lee Plowman, 39, was arrested on Sunday night for allegedly shooting three people and kidnapping a pastor and his wife in Lexington.

Plowman appeared in court on Monday.

WFMY News 2 was also in court and learned two of the three victims of the shooting are considered brain-dead, according to court hearings. When the two victims pass, the court said the charges will be upgraded to murder and Plowman will be appointed a capital defender in this case.

Plowman was also on parole and pretrial release for an earlier homicide in Forsyth County, according to court documents.

Plowman is being held on a nearly $3.5 million cash bond, court documents said.

The suspect was ordered to have no contact with witnesses or victims if released, according to the court. Plowman is scheduled to appear in court again on Feb. 19.

Plowman is also suspected of then breaking into the Community Fellowship Moravian Church where he stayed the night, according to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office.

In the morning, deputies said the suspect held the pastor and his wife at knifepoint and kidnapped them in their car.

Deputies said Plowman released the two of them on City Lake Road, near Sink Road.

Deputies found the ditched car on Jd Essick Road. He was located by a K-9 unit about eight miles from where investigators found the stolen car.
