Man charged after attempting to escape from jail on Thanksgiving in Randolph County, deputies say

RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — A man is facing charges after he attempted to escape a Randolph County jail on Thanksgiving.

Randolph County deputies said James Corcoran, Jr., 33, attempted to escape from at the Randolph County Detention Center on Nov. 23.

Deputies said he was stopped and taken back into custody by detention staff and that he was unable to breach the security of the jail.

Corcoran was taken before the magistrate who found probable cause for felony escape from a local jail and was given no bond at that time, but bond was set 48 hours later for $10,000 secured bond, deputies said.

The Randolph County Sheriff's Office said Corcoran was originally being held for felony possession of stolen motor vehicle, felony obtain property by false pretense, and misdemeanor failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge on a $5,000 secured bond.

His court date is scheduled for Dec. 15.
