Man tries to kidnap girl from bus stop in Burlington

The Alamance County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help after a reported attempted abduction happened in Burlington on Feb. 12.

BURLINGTON, N.C. — The Alamance County Sheriff's Office is searching for a man who tried to kidnap a girl from a bus stop in Burlington on Feb. 12 and needs public help.

Deputies said the report was filed Monday.

The incident happened on the 1700 block of Burch Bridge Road in Burlington when a girl reported that while she was waiting for a school bus on the morning of Feb. 12, a man driving a large white truck waved at her.

She waved back, and the man reportedly stopped, got out of the truck, and grabbed the girl's wrist.

The girl was able to break free and run up the driveway.

Deputies said the man returned the truck and drove away. The girl was not hurt.

"I'm shocked to hear such a thing," nearby residents Debbie and Charles Aldridge shared. "This is always been a very quiet safe neighborhood. We've never had any problems like that. I can't imagine how anything like that could happen. We will certainly be on high alert. If anything at all suspicious comes to my attention, we'll be on the phone with the sheriff's office. I can promise you that."

If anyone was in the area of Burch Bridge Road and Sharpe Road in Burlington on the morning of Monday, Feb. 12, and has any information, please call the Alamance County Sheriff's Office at 336-570-6300 or CrimeStoppers at 336-229-7100.
