An off-duty Greensboro Police Officer, was checking on his parents' home when he confronted the suspects who were gathering items inside the home.

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. -- A break-in suspect has been caught following a helicopter search in Guilford County on Tuesday.

Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes says deputies responded to a home burglary in progress on Groometown Road around 9 a.m.

The caller, an off-duty Greensboro Police Officer, was checking on his parents' home when he confronted the suspects who were gathering items inside the home.

Sheriff Barnes says the officer chased one of the suspects who ran from the home while the second suspect took off in a gray minivan.

Deputies set up a perimeter from Groometown Road west to the Interstate, and from Kivett Drive north to Sedgehill Court.

Barnes says a State Highway Patrol helicopter was requested to help with the search. The sheriff's office ATV Team also searched wooded areas and trails.

Deputies say they arrested suspect Brion Dwayne Heggie, around 5:30 p.m. after he was spotted on Wadena Road near Groometown United Methodist Church.

Heggie is being questioned by detectives and will be charged with Felony Breaking and Entering.

Deputies are still searching for the suspect who took off in the van.
