Porch Pirate Seen Stealing Package, Found With More On Day of Arrest, Deputies Say

Eric David Allen, 42, was caught on camera taking a package just minutes after a postal worker dropped it off at a house.

Columbia, SC - A man was seen stealing a package from a Columbia porch earlier this month, and after a brief investigation he was taken into custody.

Eric David Allen, 42, was caught on camera taking a package just minutes after a postal worker dropped it off at a house on the 2000 block of Freshly Mill Road around 11 a.m. November 2.

The next day, the victim saw Allen driving by in a moped. Allen was then taken in for questioning by Richland County deputies.

Deputies say Allen was fidgety and struggled to answer questions about his whereabouts that day, claiming he was on the porches trying to find a phone to use. When showed a photo of himself on the victim's porch, Allen didn't deny it was him. He was also wearing same type of shoes and sunglasses as suspect seen stealing the package.

He was initially released, but arrest on November 16 after an investigation. On the day of his arrest, Allen was found with someone's else belonging and is now facing two counts of larceny.
