ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A Rockingham County detention officer is accused of sneaking in "contraband" to an inmate.

The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office said Neletta Davis-Barnette was fired in March.

They said allegations of Davis-Barnette sneaking items deemed "contraband" into the jail emerged in January and an investigation began.

She's now been charged with providing contraband to an inmate. She was brought before a magistrate who released her on an unsecured bond to appear in court.

This is an ongoing investigation.
