WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Winston-Salem Police say a woman died following a hit-and-run crash Wednesday evening.

Lt. Chris Fish says two vehicles were involved in the crash on New Walkertown Road sometime before 7 p.m. Police say an Infinity was going north on New Walkertown Road, and a taxi cab driven by Ms. Olivia Florez was turning south onto the road from the shopping center in the 2800 block.

Police say for unknown reasons, the Infinity crashed into the taxi cab. Ms. Florez died at the scene from her injuries. Police say she did not have any passengers in her cab.

Police say the driver of the Infinity ran away from the crash on foot. They don't know if that person is hurt.

Police don't know if the driver who ran away did so because they were at fault in the accident or for other reasons.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.

The 2800 block of New Walkertown Road is expected to reopen sometime around midnight.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 336-727-2800.
