First Lady Dr. Jill Biden visits the Triad

Dr. Biden discussed programs that will help students find a job after graduation.

JAMESTOWN, N.C. — Guilford Technical Community College welcomed First Lady Dr. Jill Biden to the Triad Monday afternoon.

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper introduced Dr. Biden. The focus of the event was on career-connected learning.

School leaders, teachers, and educators spoke mostly about the middle-college program. The program allows high school students to take college courses while in high school.

"President Biden is helping young people and their families find answers. So, last month he announced classroom to career an ambitious new proposal partnering with states, giving every student in America the opportunity to take community college courses in high school through dual enrollment," Dr. Biden explained.

Teniola Oladunjoye is a student in the program. She said it is helping prepare her for the future.

"It's helped me shift into a college world; I think. Instead of diving headfirst, I'm kind of already in the water and I understand how it operates. I already am accustomed to the culture. So, I feel like I'm more prepared than any student who didn't," said Oladunjoye.

Since the start of the year, Dr. Biden has visited NC several times. In January, she was in Winston-Salem, in February, she was in Charlotte, and in March, she was in Durham.

Back in March, both President Biden and Former President Donald Trump visited NC.

NC has traditionally been known as a swing state. From these visits, it is clear that 2024 is an election year, and the fight is on for who will take the Tar Heel state come November.
