FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office confirmed there was a situation tonight at Flat Rock Middle School in Winston Salem off Ebert Road Friday night.

It said a deputy had to use pepper spray on students, but they could not provide details about what happened.

We know that the school had its formal Friday night. It's not clear if the situation is tied to that.

The sheriff's office said using pepper spray is common practice to de-escalate situations in schools.

Earlier this week, an SRO had to use a pepper spray fogger to break up a disturbance at Clemmons Middle School.
