Someday soon, an emoji could help save lives.
Just last week, a engineer from Google submitted a proposal to add a range of new icons to the emoji library that would help those with food allergies understand what they are eating anywhere in the world. So even if you don't speak Chinese, you know there are peanuts in that sauce.
You may be asking -- why emoji's? Can't restaurants and food companies just put pictures of the ingredients on their menus or packaging?
Not only are emoji's iconic and popular almost everywhere right now, they're also universal. All emojis are chosen and developed by the Unicode Consortium. It's a non-profit corporation that maintains how text is represented in all software products.
That's why when you send a text with the smiley face who has one eye closed and his tongue sticking out, it shows up the same on your friends phone, regardless if they use an iPhone or android.
