About That Smell In Your Car...

We all get some funky smells in our car from time to time. Take these three steps to get rid of them.

Be honest, have you ever had a bad smell in your car that you just couldn't get rid of? It happens to the best of us. But you have to know how to get rid of them. Consumer Reports put out an easy guide. There are three steps to reclaiming the air in your car.

  • Step one is finding the source. And you'll have to use your nose for that. There's a number of things that could be causing the smell. Mold, mildew, and even dead leaves could be to blame.
  • The second step is cleaning it out. If your nose leads to your vents, check the cabin air filter. You could clean it out with a $10 professional-grade duct cleaner or just replace it. A new filter will cost you $50 at the most. Check your floor mats for moisture too. Carpet cleaner or even a professional steam cleaning could get rid of the smell.
  • Final step? Prevention. Think about getting rubber all-weather mats to replace your carpeted ones. It's a lot harder to hide stench inside of those.
