Mail Delivery (Or Not) And Snow

Isn't The Postal Service's Motto "Neither Snow Nor Rain Nor Sleet...." Well, not really.

GREENSBORO, NC – No mail? Again? I mean, if you can’t get out of your neighborhood, do you really expect the mailman can get in? For some, the answer is, “don’t they promise that?”.

For so long, we have identified the USPS with the motto “Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of nigh…”. And for a good reason, it is etched in stone at the New York Post Office.

Funny thing about that, while the motto is there and we've come to all know it, it is NOT the official motto and hasn’t been used in ads in decades. The words come from Book 8 of the Persian Wars by Herodotus.

So, what about your mail? You can only do so much about your neighborhood roads. But you do have control over your mailbox. For curbside delivery, the UPSPS says snow must be cleared to the curb for a least six feet on both sides of the mailbox so the carriers' cars may approach and leave without backing up.
