Mount Airy Police Warn of Scammer Pretending to be Affiliated With BB&T Bank

Police say the scammer is calling people in Mount Airy, telling them their BB&T bank account has been compromised.

MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — Mount Airy Police say they're getting several calls about a scam phone call going around.

Police say the scammer is calling people and pretending to be affiliated with BB&T Bank. The number may even appear as if the call is coming from BB&T.

The scammer says your bank account has been compromised, and that he or she is calling to fix the problem. From there, the scammer tries to get information like your bank login info, driver's license number, and other personal information.

Police and 2 Wants To Know want to remind you - this is a scam.

Remember, your bank won't call you asking for your online account username or password.

And if you're unsure if the call is legitimate, just hang up and call the organization to verify if there's a problem.
