Starbucks will make your drink using whatever cup you bring in! How it works in-house, drive-thru & mobile ordering

You can use any cup and you get either 10 cents off your order or 25 stars for Reward members.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Starbucks is now accepting reusable cups, as in you can bring in your cup, and you leave with it filled with your ordered drink.

According to the Starbucks website, you put your cup in a brown cup holder thingy but make sure you take off the lid.  It can be any cup you have, it doesn't have to be a Starbucks cup, but it has to be clean. There will be no rinsing out of whatever you drank last in the cup.

This whole use-your-own-cup thing is to help Mother Earth, less waste. On the website, it confirms HOW the drink will be made:

Baristas then build the beverage using a new, custom beverage craft smallware that has standardized lines partners need for measurements, before seamlessly pouring the beverage into customers’ personal cups, and adding any toppings.

Here's the step-by-step scenario:

Counter Service. When you're in the shop, you go up, order, and tell the barista you're using your cup. They take your cup from you, make the order, and then serve your drink in your cup.

Drive-thru. You order your beverage at the speaker and tell them you're using your cup. Once at the window to pay, you hand over your cup. (Again, no lid!) The barista pours your pre-made drink into your cup and then adds toppings.

Mobile Order. When you order, hit the "customization button" and confirm you're using your cup. When you go to the store, you hand over your cup sans lid. The barista pours your ordered drink into your cup and adds toppings.

For using your cup, Starbucks will give you either 10 cents off your order or 25 stars if you're a Reward member.
