3 Dead After Late Night Swim At Durham Apartment Complex Pool

A total of four people were swimming when three of them were pulled from the pool at Chapel Tower Apartments, police said.

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) - Three people are dead after they were pulled from a pool at an apartment complex in Durham early Tuesday.

A total of four people were swimming when three of them were pulled from the pool at Chapel Tower Apartments, police said.

Authorities received the call shortly after 3 a.m. and arriving units found two males and a female submerged in the water, police said.

Details on what happened at the pool are scant but police confirmed the group was swimming after hours when the deaths occurred.

The fourth person who was in the water is being questioned by officers at Durham police headquarters.

A woman, who lives next to the pool, tells CBS 17 someone knocked on her door around 3 a/m.

"I thought first it was my neighbor opening doors and then when I heard someone say, 'please, please.' I kept listening he went down and he went up and that was it. That was pretty much everything. I never thought it would be somebody that needed help."

The pool will remain closed until an inspector from Durham can visit the pool, which could happen Wednesday at the earliest.

The pool's operating license was issued on June 8.
