GREENSBORO, N.C. (WFMY) -- There’s a real concern for additional flooding as river levels crest over the next several days in North Carolina.
On Monday, Governor Roy Cooper warned evacuees not to return home to the coast as 16 rivers are currently flooding in the state. Already 14 rivers are at Major Flood Stage.
However, you can keep watch of rising river levels in your own neighborhood or near you. There are three ways to help you check rising river levels.
1. The National Weather Service River Watch site
This is an interactive map river map. Take notice of the map key to know how to indicate results. You can see if rivers are at Major flooding, moderate flooding, minor flooding, near flood stage, no flooding,
2. NC Flood Inundation Mapping and Alert Network
You can sign up for rising river warning alerts by visiting the NC Flood Inundation Mapping and Alert Network. You can also use the interactive map and pay attention to the color code system for alerts.
3. Ready NC App
The Ready NC App you can download on your mobile device. The app has a section called "Flood Gages" which reveals river data levels near you. You click on the river for a data map and it reveals levels for the current level, bank full level, minor flood level, moderate flood level, and major flood level.
