GREENSBORO, N.C. (WFMY) --- Some normalcy is returning to North Carolina as Amtrak passenger train service is restored and the North Carolina Ferry system operates on a temporary schedule.
Amtrak service will resume on Thursday after more than a week due to Florence.
Service updates are as follows:
• The N.C. Department of Transportation-funded Carolinian (trains 79 and 80) and Piedmont passenger trains (trains 73, 74, 75, 76, 77, 78) between Raleigh and Charlotte will resume on Thursday.
• Restoration of the Carolinian’s service between Raleigh and New York City is dependent on CSX finishing repairs to a line north of Selma.
• Amtrak’s Crescent service, trains 19 and 20, resumed service today over the entire NYC – New Orleans route. The north and southbound Crescents will serve Greensboro, High Point, Salisbury and Charlotte starting early morning Thursday.
• Amtrak’s Silver Meteor service to Rocky Mount and Fayetteville will resume on Sunday. The service was cancelled Wednesday, Sept. 12.
• Amtrak Silver Star service to Rocky Mount, Raleigh, Cary, Southern Pines and Hamlet will resume on Sunday. It had been cancelled since Wednesday, Sept. 12.
• Amtrak Palmetto service to Rocky Mount, Wilson, Selma-Smithfield and Fayetteville will resume on Sunday. It had been cancelled since Wednesday, Sept. 12.
