Another High-Risk Day for Rip Currents at Outer Banks Beaches

A Twitter account associated with Cape Hatteras National Seashore tweeted that Tuesday has a high risk of rip currents along all Outer Banks beaches.

Memorial Day weekend may be over, but rip currents still pose a threat to beachgoers at the North Carolina coast.

A Twitter account associated with Cape Hatteras National Seashore tweeted that Tuesday carries a high risk of rip currents along all Outer Banks beaches. Red flag warnings were posted along several NC beaches on Monday as well.

High-risk days are considered life-threatening and swimmers are strongly urged to stay out of the water.

On Monday, the National Weather Service reported 10 rip current rescues at Wrightsville Beach and 10 more at Carolina Beach, according to WWAY. The National Weather Service at Morehead City told WFMY they had four reported rescues at Emerald Isle as well.

If you are caught in a rip current, experts say don’t fight it by trying to swim against it. Instead, swim parallel to the shore until you are out of the rip. Check out weather.gov/safety/ripcurrent for more help on getting out of rip currents.
