Burger Wars in the Triad

Two new burger joints opened in the Triad in the last week. WFMY News 2's Hannah Brewer takes a closer look at why the area is a popular spot for burgers.

07/10/18 — HIGH POINT, N.C. (WFMY)-- Kelton Sutton gets to cook one of his favorite foods everyday as Kitchen Manager of The PorterHouse Burger Company.

"I've got burger tattoos on me. Everybody wants to eat a good burger. It reminds you of being a kid on a summer day eating a burger," says Sutton.

He's definitely not alone in his love for a juicy patty. Since opening in 2012, The PorterHouse Burger Company has become so popular, it's opened two new locations in the Triad.

"During the weekdays it's definitely a lot of people working, a lot of business people. At night you get people from the movies, you know couples coming out on dates. And then on Friday's and Saturday's it's just a nice mix of families, of single people, people going out," says Sutton.

Greensboro alone has dozens of burger spots. The newest one called Burgerim, which opened yesterday. This is the first North Carolina location for the chain restaurant.

"Here in the deep south people tend to love their burgers. They tend to love their big, unhealthy burgers. You know, it's just a southern thing. Hot dogs, burgers, baseball, grills, outdoor weather. It's just born in the Carolinas I guess," says Duran Martin, the Director of Operations at the Greensboro Burgerim.

Burgers are truly a southern staple that Triad restaurants are taking advantage of.
