Celebrate the Year of the Dragon at the Chinese Festival in Greensboro this Saturday

This family-friendly event is free. Admission to the performances is $8

GREENSBORO, N.C. — For the first time since COVID, the Greensboro Chinese Association is putting on a festival to celebrate the Chinese New Year and the Year of the Dragon.

This family-friendly event is free. You'll see a lot of red lanterns, and cultural displays, and be able to find yourself on the Chinese Zodiac calendar. There are several performances of the traditional Lion Dance and the Sword Dance. Each performance lasts about an hour and 30 minutes. Admission to the performances is $8 apiece.

"Chinese New Year is the biggest holiday and we celebrate all around the world, no matter where we are, they celebrate the holiday," said Hong Wang of the Greensboro Chinese Association.

This year, Wang says there is a surprise for the audience during the Lion Dance that you won't want to miss. Spoiler alert: it has to do with little red envelopes which are traditional gifts during Chinese New Year.

"We will have arts and crafts and food. There is a local restaurant that will have dumplings for sale. Dumplings are the traditional food for Chinese New Year's Eve and day," said Wang.
