RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — Alex Purdue wanted to make a difference.

Just five days after the shooting in Charlotte that killed three officers on the US Marshal Task Force and one Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer, Purdue was moved to take action.

Purdue, a student at Southwestern Randolph High School, wanted to walk with his classmates to honor the fallen Charlotte officer, Joshua Eyer.

To make the event more special, Purdue wanted to carry an American flag and have a patrol car with lights flashing behind them.

He told the Randolph County Sheriff's Office his plan. With the help of his SRO, Deputy Howell, he was able to make that happen.

Purdue posted to his Facebook "So sad to see the family go through all of this but I am praying.”

The sheriff's office praised Purdue for his thoughtful action.

"Alex, Thanks for all you do for our community, first responders and agencies across the state," wrote the sheriff's office in a post.
