Troopers Looking For Driver After Hit-And-Run With Cyclist

Doug Meis was cycling with a group when he was hit by a car in Lewisville. His friends found the car's missing passenger mirror.

LEWISVILLE, N.C. -- A group of cyclists are trying to get justice for their friend after a hit-and-run.

Tuesday night, around 8 p.m., Troopers say cyclist Doug Meis was hit by a car in Lewisville. He was hit at the intersection of Conrad and Grapevine Roads, and was riding with cyclist group Piedmont Flyers when it happened. The group does regular group rides on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

"He remembers looking over his shoulder and making sure he judged the distance right before he took the lane and hand signaled left," explains fellow cyclist Danny Gunnoe. "After that he didn't know what happened."

Gunnoe says he has serious injuries including broken ribs and a broken neck.

After the crash, other cyclists with the group found the car's passenger mirror. They turned it in to Highway Patrol who says they're looking for a four-door car, possibly a black Ford Fusion or Lincoln MKZ with a missing mirror.

If you know anything, call Crime Stoppers at 336-727-2800.

"I just hate it," Gunnoe says. "I hate it happened to Doug. Being a cyclist we understand each other and we know how much it means to us to be able to keep riding on the roads. When something like that happens, it kind of scares you. It scares everybody."
