Gas prices in the carolinas have risen 12 cents in the last week.

“Oil and wholesale gasoline prices have surged and that’s driving prices higher at the pump,” said Tiffany Wright, AAA Carolinas spokeswoman. "Supply will most likely continue to tighten and keep gas prices higher through the end of the month.”

Greensboro's average price on Feb. 13 was $2.17. Wednesday, it was $2.28.

A total of 28 states saw an increase of five cents or more in the last week.

"Another key factor for rising prices is refineries entering maintenance season. This is the time when refineries prepare to switch over to summer-blend gasoline. During this time production is reduced as refineries go offline and begin their version of 'spring cleaning,'" added Wright.
