Navigating mental health in the workplace: Monday Motivation

Self-Care Coach Reketta Brown with Thrive Foundation explains ways to prioritize mental health.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Navigating mental health in the workplace can sometimes be a challenge.

In this week’s Monday Motivation, Self-Care Coach Reketta Brown with Thrive Foundation shows us ways to prioritize our mental health.

“Mental health needs to be a top priority in the workplace because it produces a healthy work environment,” Brown said. “Stress can sneak up on employees sometimes because of increased workloads and deadlines. This can cause stress and burnout. When that happens, employees are more prone to call out of work, are less motivated, and are also distracted. When employees are distracted, they won’t be able to produce and be productive.”

Brown said ways workplaces can create supportive environments by having open communication and open dialogue.

“It helps to create a healthy workplace,” Brown said. “Also having training and education for managers and leaders within the organization so they can be able to recognize signs and symptoms of distress in employees. It’s just the right thing to do.  You want your employees to feel healthy, you want them to feel well, and you want them to know that you support them and their mental health when things are going on.”
