GREENSBORO, NC -- Backpacks are being stuffed, school busses are warming up and teachers are putting the final touches on the perfect "Welcome Back" bulletin board. That can only mean one thing: it's time to go back to school. It's certainly an exciting time but for parents it's also an expensive time.
The National Retail Federation says families will spend on average $667 per child when they go back-to-school shopping. That's up 5% from last year. Most of that budget will go toward clothes and accessories.
WFMY News 2's Maddie Gardner went out on a mission to save you money. With help from Goodwill she found outfits for all ages at significantly lower prices. Parents can save up to 91% at Goodwill compared to a major department store.
Goodwill found these two looks for high school students for less than $15 each.
For middle school and elementary school students, we found these looks among the racks. These shirts were $1.99 and the jeans were only $2.99.
Families with multiple kids can find serious savings. Take a look at these kids ready to take on the school year in Goodwill fashion finds.
It's not just clothes, it's backpacks, electronics and books too. You can find a backpack for as little as $1.99. Goodwill also offers discount laptops, calculators, headphones and more.
