‘It Was The Epitome Of Honest’: Ring Video Shows Couple Selflessly Returning Woman's Wallet They Found On I-40 Ramp

Melanie Cook says she left her wallet on the top of her car, and drove off. While she was retracing her steps to find it, a couple knocked on her door.

DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. — While getting in her car to head home on Sunday afternoon, Melanie Cook did something we've all done, she left something on the top of her car, and drove off.

When she neared her Mocksville home, she realized her wallet was missing.

"We started making that trek back to Clemmons and called the last place that I had seen it. They couldn’t find it either," she explained.

"My husband got online and we started canceling the cards that could cause the most damage. And I’m thinking my driver's license, things from work, everything was in my wallet."

Just as she was losing hope of finding the wallet, her Ring doorbell sounded on her phone. A man was at the door.

"My husband explains that we are talking to him through the doorbell and that we’re not at home," Cook said.

"The man at the door holds the wallet and he said, 'we found your wife’s wallet.'"

The man and his wife explained they saw it on an I-40 interstate on-ramp, and they stopped to pick it up. Once they found the address, they drove it to Cook's home.

"[The woman said] it looked like it had been run over, and the clasp is broken, but we didn’t take anything out of it!" said Cook, "And I thought that was just the epitome of honest - letting me know that they hadn’t touched anything."

Cook thanked the couple, but she and her husband were unable to get their names. She posted the story to social media hoping to track down the couple, and let them know their act of kindness didn't go unnoticed.

"I think the people are spreading it because it’s just good news. It makes you feel good to know that there are good people doing good things," she said.

"My mind was turning with everything that could’ve happened, and how much damage someone could’ve done to you personally. So it was just a blessing, and they were just so honest and so good to do that."
