Man Shoots Electrical Transformer in Asheboro, Causes Power Outage: Sheriff

ASHEBORO, N.C. — Randolph County Sheriff's Office says a man shot an electrical transformer, causing a power outage. 

Deputies arrested Augustus Charles McAndrew for the January 18 incident. 

Investigators responded to a call in the area of Millie Lane in Asheboro about a complaint of an electrical transformer being shot with a firearm. Randolph Electric made repairs to restore power in the area.

Deputies determined McAndrew was responsible for the damage. He was arrested the next day. 

McAndrew was charged with felony injuring utility wire/fixture, felony littering hazardous waste, misdemeanor communicating threats, and misdemeanor county ordinance violation. 

He was placed in Randolph County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond.
