MONSTER NC Cantaloupe Breaks World Record

In order to beat the record, the cantaloupe had to weigh more than 64 pounds.

RALEIGH, N.C. (WFMY) -- You could call it a whopper of a cantaloupe!

On Tuesday, the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services held the official cantaloupe weigh-in in hopes of setting a new world record.

In order to beat the record, the cantaloupe had to weigh more than 64 pounds. The last record was held by Alaska with a cantaloupe weighing just over 64 pounds. However, the previous record was held in North Carolina.

State Agriculture Commissioners are proud to bring the record back to North Carolina.

The cantaloupe beat the Alaska record with a weigh-in of 65.9 pounds for a new world record. It was grown by Danny Vester from Nash County. Congrats Danny!
