NC School Bus Driver Ejected, Run Over By Bus After Crash: Police

A Wake County bus driver was ejected from her bus and run over by a back tire during a Nov. 18 crash, according to a crash report from Raleigh police.

A Wake County bus driver was ejected from her bus and run over by a back tire during a Nov. 18 crash, according to a crash report from Raleigh police.

The call originally came in on Nov. 18 around 5:10 p.m. as an accident and then was reported as a shooting. Police later said that the was no indication that a shooting had occurred.

According to the Raleigh Police Department’s crash report obtained by WNCN, the bus was heading east on Cross Link Road when the crash occurred. The driver told police she had no recollection of the wreck or the events leading up to the wreck.

A witness that was behind the bus at the time of the crash provided a detailed statement to police.

The witness told police that the bus went off the road to the left into oncoming traffic and then came back to the right and then went back off the road to the left where it slammed into a tree, according to the report. After hitting the tree, the bus then went back to the right and again back to the left.

The witness told police she saw a female rolling on the ground and that the woman had been run over by one of the rear tires of the bus. After running the driver over, the bus continued off the road to the left where it hit a ditch, stop sign and a mailbox before coming to a rest.

Police said they’re not sure how the driver was ejected from the bus.

No students were on the bus at the time of the crash.

The bus driver was injured and taken to WakeMed for treatment.

The crash is being investigated as a traffic incident and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
