NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C. — Paul Call, the caretaker for North Wilkesboro Speedway, has died.

He was a valuable member of the North Wilkesboro Speedway family.

"A guardian of the property for decades, Paul cheerfully welcomed visitors and maintained the grounds, working for both Enoch Staley and Speedway Motorsports," North Wilkesboro Speedway wrote in a statement.

They said his spirit personified the passion of the community to bring the speedway back.

"We are grateful he got to see NASCAR's return earlier this year," the speedway added. "We join Wilkes County in remembering Paul today and send our condolences to his family."

North Wilkesboro Speedway also released a statement about his passing on Facebook.
