Former SC officer charged with murder after killing Pfafftown man in Chick-Fil-A parking lot, SLED says

Off-duty SC officer, Anthony DeLustro, 64, shot and killed Michael O'Neal, 39, after an altercation in a Chick-Fil-A parking lot in March, according to SLED.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged former Summerville officer Anthony DeLustro with murder Wednesday after he killed a man from Pfafftown, NC. 

DeLustro, 64, shot and killed Michael O'Neal, 39, after an altercation in a Summerville Chick-fil-A parking lot on Wednesday, March 20. O'Neal was pronounced dead at the scene, according to SLED. 

DeLustro was off duty at the time of the shooting. 

He was booked at the Berkeley County Detention Center. The case will be prosecuted by the 9th Circuit Solicitor's Office.

The O'neal family has since released the following statement:

“We appreciate the continued community outreach, support, and respect for privacy during this difficult time. Today, the family was notified of the arrest of Anthony DeLustro for the murder of Michael O’Neal. As we continue to mourn our loss, we are hopeful that justice will prevail. We appreciate the work and dedication of the involved departments who have worked to get to this point. -O’Neal Family”
