Problems at apartment has Greensboro woman calling WFMY News 2 for help

Tierra Miller was just looking for a safe and reliable place for her and her two kids. Miller said the place had several issues, including a busted AC unit.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Tierra Miller was frustrated. The frustration that comes with trying to get an issue resolved for months without success.

Miller moved into an apartment and told WFMY News 2 there were problems initially.

“The list of problems since we’ve been here is a clogged sink, and the tub is peeling (so I can’t). Give the kids a bath,” Miller said.

The biggest issue is the air conditioning unit that works but leaks water all over the floor, lots of water.

“It leaks all day long; I clean and mop (a lot); I have a bucket filled with water from mopping the floor,” Miller said.

Trying to navigate around an apartment with water constantly on the floor is difficult at best, but it's almost impossible when you have two little kids and a dog.

Miller said she tried to get management to fix the unit, but they never did. The final straw was when Miller said one of her daughters slipped in the water and she had to go to the doctor.

“I’m frustrated not just (for) myself but my kids, they shouldn’t live like this,” Miller said.

A few days later, Miller told the management company she planned to break her lease and move. Miller was told she could leave, but the termination fee for breaking the lease was around $2,000.

Miller called WFMY News 2 a few days later for some assistance. We contacted the management company and spoke with a representative about the issue.

We also asked about the air conditioning unit and all the other repairs that Miller had asked the complex to fix. A representative told us they would investigate the issue and get back to us or Miller soon.

Miller called a week later to let us know the apartment complex allowed her to break the lease and move without paying an early termination fee.

“I definitely appreciate everything you guys have done for me,” Miller said.

Miller and the kids are in a new apartment now and hope to find a home to move into soon.
