Ahead of Easter weekend, many pastors are looking at ways to rebuild in-person attendance

One local pastor is hoping this Easter service will bring change not only in the church, but also throughout the community.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Some churches are suffering from dwindling congregations.

"A lot of churches were in trouble," Michael Wolff, a revitalization pastor at Eastway Baptist Church, said.

It's an issue Wolf has been working to change for years, helping out many churches on life support.

"The first Sunday I  came here about two years ago it went down to about 14 or 15 people, that's down from 150 to 200 members," said Wolff.

As pastor Wolff works to bring those numbers back up, he’s also teaming up with other community leaders to keep seats filled and doors open.

"The church has the opportunity to get outside of these walls and meet people where they are," Justin Bouldin, with Apartment Life.

Apartment life is a ministry effort that allows Bouldin to bring the word to the people in his community.

"It encourages us to meet people where they are at and take that message of love and hope to them," said Wolff.

Together Wolff and Bouldin are hoping to breathe new life back into Eastway, the same church but with new strategies.

"If we can be that bridge for people they will start engaging with their faith and the church," said Bouldin.

Wolff said traditionally Sunday brings in a bigger crowd and they want to share a message of hope for the community.

Wolff said their vision will transform both the church and the community, giving surviving members a new beginning and new members a fresh start

"We are here for everyone," said Wolff.
