Deadly hit-and-run on W. Steeple Chase Rd. in Guilford County, troopers say

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said they have since located the suspect vehicle tied to a deadly hit-and-run on I-73 but haven't found the driver.

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — A victim has died after they were hit while walking along I-73 South in Guilford County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said that around 7:26 a.m., they had been called to a crash involving a pedestrian on I-73 S near West Steeple Chase Road. Investigators said 55-year-old Clyde Strickland, Raeford, N.C., was walking south on I-73 when a vehicle driving south hit Strickland.

Strickland received serious life-threatening injuries and was taken to Moses H. Cone Hospital in Greensboro, where they died days later, troopers said. 

Investigators were searching for a white 2015-2021 Audi A3 passenger car believed to have been involved in the crash and have since located it, but they have not found the driver. 

This investigation is ongoing.
