Planters Nut Recall: Sold at Publix and Dollar Tree Stores in five states

Where to look for the UPC and 'Best By' dates on the packages

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Planters recall is limited, impacting two varieties of products. No other sizes, varieties, or other packaging configurations of Planters brand products are included in this recall.

RECALLED ITEMS

4-ounce bag of Honey Roasted Peanuts

8.75-ounce can of Deluxe Lighty Salted Mixed Nuts

The impacted products were only sold by Publix in North Carolina, Florida, and Alabama and by Dollar Tree stores in Georgia and South Carolina.  To confirm you have one of the impacted products, look at the UPCs and the best-by dates.

The FDA and parent company Hormel say you should not eat the nuts and either throw them out or return the package to the place of purchase for a refund or exchange for another Planters item.

The issue is listeria, which is a bacteria.

"Listeria gets in food and makes people sick especially babies, seniors, and people whose immune systems are weak and cause serious problems. Listeria is different than other bacteria because it can grow and transfer onto other foods," said  Dr. Arefa Cassoobhoy, Medical Director of WebMD.
