Police Chief Writes Letter To Boone Community In Missing Student Case

James Martin Roberts, 19, was last seen near the intersection of Hardin Street and Rivers Street around the Appalachian State Convocation Center around 12:30 pm, Thursday, April 21.

BOONE, N.C.-- A month after a 19-year-old student disappeared, the Boone Police Chief has written a letter to the community asking for help.

In the letter Chief Dana Crawford says there are periods of time that James 'Martin' Roberts' whereabouts can't be accounted for by friends or roommates.The chief says investigators believe there is someone who could help fill in the gaps, but the person is hesitant to come forward.

Last Monday, Boone police announced they are looking for 'mystery person' to help with the investigation.

According to police, Martin vanished April 21. He left a hand-written note, but it has offered few clues in the investigation.

Days after his disappearance WFMY News 2 spoke with Martin's family who lives in Kernersville. They say the note only said "I'm leaving". They say his disappearance is out of character for him.

Martin was living in Boone and attending Caldwell Community College.
