Public Transportation Customers Want Changes to Greensboro Bus Schedule, Group Says

Working America claims people in Greensboro are complaining that public transportation doesn't run often enough, and some of the buses just don't go where they need them to.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- — At Tuesday's Greensboro City Council Meeting, Working America members, and Greensboro Transit Authority (GTA) riders will be urging city council to improve the "schedule, service area, and bus stop safety and comfort," according to a press release.

Working America claims people in Greensboro are complaining that public transportation doesn't run often enough, and some of the buses just don't go where they need them to.

After a survey of 200 bus riders, many said their issues come down to time, and accessibility to help them get where they need to go, when they need to get there.

"What's one of the first things they ask you on an application? Do you have steady transportation to and from work," questioned Channing Gallimore, who rides the bus often.

Gallimore says for many who ride the bus on second and third shift they have to answer that question with a "no."

"Getting back is an issue. That can be an issue that can create a whole nother problem. Why would they go to work if they can't get back," asked Gallimore.

Gallimore recently started a second shift job and says the bus can get him *to* work, but it can't get him back home.

So instead he sets up rides.

"I just feel like that's very unfair to those people that have to work those hours. That they have to go through that much hassle to get to and from work." said Gallimore.

Gallimore believes this could be holding some people back.

"I can see where people probably get disheartened and maybe even have to lose a job because they can't get to and from work," said Gallimore.

Right now, GTA Operates 16 Routes from 5:15 in the morning until 11:30 at night Mondays through Friday.

However, Gallimore and other bus riders hope GTA will extend their hours and routes even more to eventually get to 24 hour service.

I called the city and the GTA several times today for comment.

They did not respond.
