Eighth grade math and science teacher, Mike Hatfield is biking to raise at least $6,000 to buy Chromebooks for the classroom.

06/14/18 — RAMSEUR, N.C. (WFMY)-- Mike Hatfield always goes the extra mile for his students.

The eighth grade math and science teacher at Southeastern Randolph Middle School is biking 4,200 miles to raise money for school supplies.

He started his cross country journey about two weeks ago in Oregon. He's hoping to raise at least $6,000 to buy Chromebooks for the classroom.

On Saturday, Hatfield hit a bit of a speed bump when he was hit by a car. He spent several hours in the hospital and a night at a hotel, but his wife, Joy Hatfield says it didn't stop him.

"He decided you know what, I've come this far. I tell my kids you're gonna have obstacles you're gonna have to overcome, so that's what he did. He kept going," says Hatfield.

The entire ride will take about two months. He'll be finishing his journey in Virginia.
