Snow Covered Neighborhood Roads Are Not Cleared By High Point City

High Point says they historically have not plowed residential streets because of limited manpower, equipment and resources.

HIGH POINT, NC (WFMY) - People in High Point hoping to eventually see a plow, probably wont.

During the update on conditions in the city, historically, it hasn't plowed residential streets because of limited manpower, equipment and resources. The city cites 4 priority areas it works to clear after a snowstorm.

In an email, High Point says "The level of manpower and equipment on hand is designed to focus on the Priority 1, 2 and 3 streets. Thankfully, High Point does not often experience the snowfall that Winter Storm Diego has brought us, so we are not faced with this challenge on a frequent basis."

Priority 1 streets include those around the hospital, downtown business district and Eastchester/Westchester. Priority 2 streets are bolstered by traffic from neighborhoods like Brentwood, Skeet Club and Ward. Priority 3 (Deep River, Old Mill, Springfield and Prospect) and Priority 4 areas (Washington, Leonard, Model Farm, Ingleside and Hickswood) are also on the docket.

The city says they're working on clearing Priority 1, 2, 3 and 4 routes and intersections during the day. The public services department is continuing 24-hour operations this week.

The storm dropped around 11 inches of snow in High Point.

Also in High Point heavy snow caused an awning to collapse at Florence Elementary School.
