UNCG police officer dies of cancer

He was described as a "friendly, compassionate and driven law enforcement professional."

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A local police officer has died from cancer, according to the UNCG Police Department.

Sergeant Jaime Young died from cancer on Feb. 25. He worked for the department for 9 years wearing several hats: officer, criminal investigator, behavioral assessment team member, accreditation manager, and patrol sergeant.

Young received Officer of the Year with the department in 2019. In 2020, he was recognized as the UNC System Officer of the Year, the department said.

Young was described as a "friendly, compassionate and driven law enforcement professional."

"We will always remember him for his warm smile and genuinely caring spirit," wrote the department in a statement.

The department posted about the loss on Facebook.
