Unemployed Woman Attends Greensboro Career Fair and Leaves With Job Start Date

A woman who has been unemployed for almost a year attended a career fair in Greensboro and left with a start date for a job in customer service.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The job search can be a daunting task. You search online, you ask friends, you stop at places that have help wanted signs and yes--you go to an endless number of job and career fairs.

Job fairs can almost be discouraging, because no matter how early you go the line always seems endless.

Thursday, The Career Center of the Triad is sponsored a free Career Fair and Networking Event at The Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center. The news release said there were over 500 positions available.

WFMY News 2's Jessica Winters went to the career fair with the mission of finding someone who might actually end their search with a job offer while at the event.

Jessica talked to many job seekers and then there's Eve Jimenez. Eve has been unemployed for 11 and a half months, she has a misdemeanor on her record and a very visible tattoo on her neck.

She's well aware of the strikes against her.

"There's just a lot of companies that if you have a visible tattoo they will not hire you". She's working with Legal Aid to try and get it expunged, she said. Eve is racing against time to keep a roof over her head too. The rent is due and she's on a waiting list for the shelter.

Luck was on her side and Eve left with a job and start date. Congratulations Eve!

There is hope at the end of those job fair lines.
