More Than 100 Suspected Illegal Workers Arrested In Poultry Plant Raid

Investigators were looking into reports of identity theft and false documents.

Springfield, MO -- More than 100 workers at Missouri poultry plant have been arrested on suspicion of being illegal immigrants. Federal immigration officials say most of those arrested in a raid at the George's processing plant in rural Butterfield were from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. Pete Baird, an agent in charge of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigations office in Kansas City, says the arrests are part of a probe into identity theft and false documents allegedly used by illegal immigrants. Three people pleaded guilty this year to Social Security fraud as part of the same investigation, and one person has been indicted. No charges have been filed against George's, a regional poultry processing company based in northwest Arkansas.
