A Dale couple was found dead Tuesday night after what police believe was a murder-suicide.

William Lamar, 74, and Martha Lamar, 68, were found dead in their home Tuesday night after an acquaintance asked the Spencer County Sheriff’s Department to check in on them, according to an Indiana State Police media release.

When the Lamars didn't answer their door, police forced their way in and found William Lamar dead in the living room and Martha Lamar dead in the kitchen.

Both died of apparent gunshots wounds, according to the release, and police found a handgun lying next to Martha Lamar. Investigators said they believe Martha Lamar had shot and killed William Lamar and then killed herself. They believe both died on or around June 29.

While police don't know exactly why Martha Lamar killed her husband, they suspect it was some sort of domestic incident, said ISP spokesperson Sgt. Philip Hensley. There were no signs of a struggle — William Lamar was just seated in his armchair.

"Threats had been made prior to this... it was kind of an ongoing thing," Hensley said. "They weren't getting along. I think she just finally snapped."

Investigators said they consider the case to be closed.
