Charlotte shooting updates: 3 of 4 officers injured released from hospital

The four officers who died have been identified.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Investigators shared new information Tuesday in the shooting that left four law enforcement officers dead in Charlotte.

Updates from the press conference:

- US Marshals identified the fourth agent who was killed as Deputy U.S. Marshal Thomas Weeks, who is survived by his wife and four children. U.S. Marshal Sam Poloche, U.S. Marshal Alden Elliott, and CMPD officer Joshua Eyer also died in the shooting.

- Four other officers were injured. Of the four officers injured, three are home from the hospital. One is out of surgery and stable.

- An AR-15 rifle and a .40 caliber handgun were recovered from the home.

- CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings said he’s not sure if there was more than one shooter; he’s looking at body camera footage to see if the initial timeline adds up to substantiate reports that the officers took fire after the suspect was down.

- Two females who were inside the home are cooperating with the investigation, police say. One of them was a juvenile. Police said they were in the home voluntarily but did not disclose the connection to the suspect, citing the investigation. Right now, they have not been charged with anything.

- Twelve CMPD officers fired their weapons and have been placed on administrative leave.

- CMPD's chief said they believe the suspect saw the officers coming before they got to the front door, and that the officers were met with gunfire immediately.

The Latest

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Four officers trying to serve a warrant for a felon wanted for possessing a firearm were killed and four other officers were wounded in a shootout in North Carolina. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings said the officers killed the suspect outside the Charlotte home Monday after he fired on them. Jennings says officers who rushed to rescue the downed officers were themselves wounded by a second shooter firing from inside the home. Armored vehicles smashed into the home, tearing down doors and shattering windows. A woman and a 17-year-old male were taken away for questioning after the three-hour standoff ended. Police also say a high-powered rifle was seized from the home.
